Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer (1981, Live at Central Park).

Happy birthday, sir.

Sunderland vs. Manchester United, 13.05.2012.

Went into the game expecting nothing. city had the league won - they were more than likely to beat QPR, though we should beat Sunderland.

Rooney put us 1-0 up, then news filtered through that city had scored as well. The vicious rumour that Wright-Phillips had missed a penalty was grossly untrue.

In the second half, as United were peppering the Sunderland goal some more (the wood work was hit three times), we found out that Cisse levelled for QPR. Then that Joey Barton had been sent off. Hope was lost thinking of city’s home and their opposition a man down.

Then Jamie Mackie put QPR up. I didn’t believe it at first. I had to see it to believe it - thank God for the SSN app! This went on for 20 minutes. This hell went on for 20 minutes.

90 minutes up. 3 minutes added on here. 5 minutes added on there. I still didn’t believe it.

Pip, pip, piiip. Full time. 1-0 win. QPR still 2-1. I started to believe. 2 minutes. I believed.

2-2. I still believed. They couldn’t.

They did. The Stadium of Light fucking erupted. I felt sick. Clapped the boss and the players. Watched them down the tunnel, and said goodbye to 2011/12.

Presenting The Fabulous Ronettes.

“When I first met The Ronettes, I didn’t think they were going to be a very good group. Phil said to me ‘I’ve found this group, they’re good looking, but they don’t sing to well.’ So I said, ‘well why bother?’ He said ‘I kind of promised their mother.’ You can see everything is very businesslike with Phil.

“So he brought these girls in, and they were beautiful. But, they really sounded terrible. I figured he had really flipped his lid. After we had finished this record, which was really bad, he turned to me and said ‘aren’t they great?’ I just kind of looked at him for a few minutes and didn’t say anything. Pretty soon this big grin started spreading over his face and he broke into a laugh. ‘Girls,’ he said, ‘now sing it right for Larry.’
